A 26.2 mile fun run.

My 2007 Chicago Marathon. The Down & Dirty: 4:34:06.

No place, because it was a Fun Run by the time I finished.

At least I finished. Many runners were swept off the course when race officials cancelled the race during its fourth hour due to record heat. It was 88 degrees and humid (and sunny) two and a half hours into the race. One runner tragically died and over three hundred were sent to the hospital during the race.

My running buddy A, who wasn't running due to injury, picked me up two miles out and ran me in. Otherwise my time would have been a lot worse. It was bad. I was glad to finish. Chicago is flat but the last hill right at MP 26 is an ass-kicker. Heck, Chicago kicked my ass. But I finished and I'm safe.

There's lots more that I can tell you later about my trip to Chicago.

Thanks to all of you who were concerned and checked afterwards on my status.

Congratulations on your finish. You finished and you're safe--two pretty good results. This marathon sounds like one for the memory books. Unbelievable.

I am so proud that you finished! I know it must have been awful. I can't wait to hear the full report. And, of course, I'm grateful that the heat did not get to you.

Sorry I missed your call-back the other day. Glad you survived Chicago 2007, and not too much the worse for wear. I'm astounded that A. found you as well. Very, very sad news about the runner who died and the others who got ill.

Way to be, Peter...what an accomplishment!

I can't even begin to wrap my brain around that kind of heat in Chicago, in October. I'm so glad to hear, however, that you are well.

Sorry, Peter. I was off having fun running and Jeeping trails in Moab, Utah.

When I heard the news about the Chicago marathon I immediately thought of you. I'm glad you made it to the finish line.

I can't wait to hear the entire race report either!

Chin up! You are still setting the pole higher for me!
