Cliff diving into the Colorado River

After we repulsed the pirates on the Colorado River on the sixth day of our eight-day raft trip through the Grand Canyon, we celebrated by jumping into the river--from a cliff.

Lindsay showed us how to do it. (Left: This is how you leap off a cliff into the Colorado River. "Aaaaa Hoooo!" Slim Pickens.)

One of the school administrators went next. She liked it so much she did it again. And I think she did it again. And again. Woot. (Right: Thumbing her nose at danger.)

Here's the other school administrator taking the plunge. Tell me, could you ever imagine your school principal engaging in this kind of behavior? (Left: "Hey, what about Major Kong?" James Earl Jones.)

It was a long way down, but no one chickened out. (Right: It was at least 20 feet down into the river. Woo hoo!)

SO my most vivid memory of hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon was how freaking cold the river is, even in June. I think jumping off a cliff into the water might induce shock :-)

What fun! I love rafting! I've only rafted the Rogue (multiple times) and the Deschutes (once) - both here in Oregon. When the kids are older - or perhaps just the hubby and me - it would be so fun to do a multi-day trip through the Grand Canyon. :)

Wow: when I was a kid I jumped off the 10 foot diving board at the city pool... but the thought of jumping 20 feet now sort of takes my breath away. What a party! Thanks for the Pogo comment.

I wonder if I would have done it. I like diving better, just seems easier on the body, but 20 feet would be something new!

Good for you!

I've never been to the GC before. I've flown over it countless times criss-crossing the country, and seen it that way. I've definitly got to include it on a bike-across-the-us journey though.

You're trip sounds like it had some great moments though! Incredible stuff.
